MIAMI MAN CHANGES INTO AMAZON ICE COSTUME, COLLECTS FELONIES
Danilo Alves Silva, 46, of Port St. Lucie, voted in Brazil's presidential election at Miami Dade College's Kendall Campus on Sunday while wearing a Brazilian jersey. Then he walked out to his car and changed into a blue ICE raid jacket, an ICE hat, sunglasses, a camo face mask and tactical boots, all of it purchased on Amazon. He finished the look with a handheld radio that he used to call in his own position. He told detectives he wanted to see people's reactions. He got them. The arrest report says voters were clearly in fear that an actual ICE agent was working their election and might start deporting people. The part Silva did not plan for is that the campus was already full of Miami-Dade deputies and plainclothes Homeland Security Bureau detectives running security. They followed him between the two voting buildings for the entire performance. A voter and a guy with a camera confronted him, Silva got aggressive, and the detectives moved in. He admitted he was not a federal agent, could not produce ID, and explained that no law stops a man from dressing as ICE at a polling site. In the patrol car he threatened the detective, then offered to pay him. He's charged with voter intimidation, unlawful use of a police badge, and conspiracy to commit bribery, which is a bold charge for a one-man operation. A public defender entered a not guilty plea. Right-leaning coverage filed this under Florida Man in a costume. Left-leaning coverage filed it under voter intimidation. The arrest report supports both.
Why you should give a shit: He proved that a jacket off Amazon is indistinguishable from federal law enforcement to a parking lot full of voters, which is a hell of a thing to find out a month before Americans go vote.
