FLORIDA MAN ATE $769,500 IN TIFFANY DIAMONDS AND THE COPS JUST WAITED HIM OUT
On February 26, 2025, a guy walked into the Tiffany & Co. at Orlando's Mall at Millenia with no appointment, told staff his name was Shawn and that he was negotiating a sale on behalf of a player on the Orlando Magic. He was wearing a red hat, a red Polo shirt, and very ripped blue jeans. They took him into the VIP room anyway, because of the value of the jewelry involved. Staff laid out a pair of 4.86-carat earrings worth $160,000, a pair of 8.19-carat earrings, and a 5.61-carat diamond ring worth $587,000. Jaythan Gilder grabbed all three pieces, struggled with employees, dropped the ring, and fled. The employee suffered minor arm injuries. Florida Highway Patrol spotted his vehicle driving without rear lights on Interstate 10 in Washington County. A $769,500 heist, ended by a bulb. Then he swallowed several items during the arrest, and a scan at the Washington County Jail found foreign objects in his stomach. He reportedly asked jail staff if he was going to be charged with what was in his stomach. A trooper heard him say he should have thrown them out the window. Detectives recovered three earrings on March 10 and the fourth on March 12. A jury found him guilty of robbery and grand theft.
Why you should give a shit: Cops don't need a confession when they can just wait twelve days, and Gilder is now convicted of robbery and grand theft over four earrings that went back to Tiffany cleaner than when he took them.
